Martin Cruz Smith , 1942-

Martin William Smith was born in Reading, Pennsylvania; his father was a musician and his mother a jazz singer and Indian rights leader. Smith received his B. A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964. His career has included work for a local televsion stations, newspapers, and as a correspondent for the Associated Press. Smith, who is best known for his novel Gorky Park, is a member of the Authors League of America and the Authors Guild.
