the
Internet Public LibraryThis guide is designed to help find information about migraine headaches: general information about migraines, what the symptoms are, possible causes and triggers, treatments, as well as where to look for more information and locating agencies and support groups.
Migraines are a specific form of headache with a number of different symptoms and different subtypes. If you think you or someone you know might suffer from migraines the best place to start looking for information might be a family medical guide, such as those published by the American Medical Association, John Hopkins University Hospital or the Mayo Clinic, which can be found in any public library. This will give a basic description of migraine headaches and their symptoms. Of course any diagnosis must be made by your medical doctor.
There are also several specific books on headaches and migraines including: Help for Headaches by Joel Saper, MD, a guide describing a number of different headache types, symptoms and treatments; Migraine: everything you need to know by Valerie South, RN; and The Natural Health Guide to Headache Relief: the definitive handbook for treating every kind of headache pain. Many public libraries should have these books, as well as many college and university libraries. They can also be purchased through amazon.com, an Internet-based bookstore.
Most public libraries in the United States use the Dewey Decimal Classification; the call number for headaches follows. Library staff can help you with more information.
The National Headache Foundation in the United States (formerly the National Migraine Foundation) publishes a newsletter and can provide general information about migraine and its treatment. Their address is 5252 North Western Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625. There is also the Michigan Head-Pain & Neurological Institute, one of the foremost head-pain research institutes in the world, which can provide information. Their address is 3120 Professional Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48104-5199.
