Artsedge: The National Arts and Information Network

ArtsEdge is a cooperative effort among the Kennedy Center, the U.S. Dept. of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts. Its stated mission is "to help artists, teachers, and students gain access to and/or share information, resources, and ideas that support the arts as a core subject area in the K12 curriculum." The site has information about standards for arts education and the national Goals 2000 effort. Teachers will find curriculum and evaluation guidelines, lesson plans, "cue sheets" which explain some of the performances at the Kennedy Center and links to other resources such as "African Odyssey Interactive," an initiative on African arts, and a categorized list of arts sites on the Web.

World Wise Schools

According to the site, "The World Wise Schools program enables U.S. educators and their students in grades 3 through 12 to correspond with a Peace Corps Volunteer living and working in one of over 90 countries in which Peace Corps serves. Through our award-winning videos and teacher guides, students in the U.S. learn about the people, their cultures, and the geography of the featured countries." Some of the teacher guides are online, and a package of video and teacher guide can be purchased from the U.S. government printing office for a reasonable fee (currently $35). Volunteers are also available to speak to schoolchildren about their experiences in the Peace Corps.
