An atlas -- An atlas is a book of maps. Check to see if your school or public library has one. An atlas can give you information such as the distance between cities or the names of counties.

An encyclopedia -- An encyclopedia is a book containing information about many things as well as states. An encylopedia will help you to discover more information about the industries of a state, as well as general information to help you get an idea about what a certain state is like.

The official state tourist agency -- The official state tourist agency is an organization which gives out brochures and booklets to help you learn more about that state. Every tourist agency has an 800 number as well as an address to which you can write.

Ask around -- No one knows more about what it's like to live in a certain area than someone who has lived there! Ask adults if they know someone who has lived in the state you're interested in. A person who has lived in a certain area can tell you interesting stories about what it was like to live in that state.
